Could be interesting if they start implementing an option for “touch” capability to these “newer” versions.įYI, here’s Autodesk comparison chart from 2011 - 2014 (you can tell they are really trying to promote 2014…but it’s probably the best of the four: Artist has been slowly appealing to Cintiq’s or other tablet monitors. One beneficial use for “newer” versions of these Autodesk products that I’m excited to try is Mudbox 2014’s multi-touch capability. Other users could have different needs so it depends what strengths in the version you want to utilize (nitrous, iray, etc) for some. I’m a game artist/animator so some newer processes/features could benefit like DX 11 support in 2014 but not much else. So these newer 3ds max versions aren’t really a big “noticeable” improvement on what my day to day normal tasks are. I don’t render much in Max besides Mental Ray…and I use 3rd party ones like Vray (used to use Brazil). Scriptspot and other sites helped make Max 9+ way ahead of it’s time and was very stable too. I do like some of the recent features the “peel” and “pelt” but 3rd party plugins back in the days were way ahead of it’s time. I’d like to try some of the newer features in 2014 but don’t feel the need to. I’m using 2013 now and that has crashed more than I remember Max 9 or 2010 has.
